Sometimes love takes 15 years to find its way to the altar. For Yvania and Christopher Bower, the altar happened to be the steps of Southbury Town Hall.
The Southbury couple decided that Wednesday, August 12, was finally the day to make it official.
“Tired of waiting,” Yvania said with a smile.
The two met in 2011 on a train platform in Bridgeport and have been together since then, calling Southbury home for the past six years.
“She got off in Norwalk; I got off in Stamford,” Christopher said, recalling their first time meeting. “She gave me her number on the way out.”
After exchanging vows on the steps, the newlyweds headed inside Town Hall to complete the paperwork that would make their marriage official on paper, too.
Wednesday’s ceremony mirrored what the two said they admire about their hometown of Southbury.
“We love that Southbury is quiet and quaint,” Yvania said. “And the school system is amazing for our son.”
The two said getting married at Town Hall “just made sense” after 15 years of building a life together and having their son, Christopher Jr.
“I think it solidifies our bond and our strength to continue persevering,” said Yvania. “Life happens all the time. We’ve done things a little bit backwards. But we’re looking to do whatever life has to throw at us together.”
Following their wedding, the Bowers stayed local by heading down Main Street South to Mercato Italian Kitchen and Bar to celebrate with a meal.
“Whether it’s late in life or not, tying the knot is important,” Yvania added. “I’m glad we did it today.”
