The Southbury Land Trust will celebrate the grand opening of its newest protected property, Spring Hill Farm Preserve, with a public event Saturday, Oct. 24, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The 31-acre preserve, located at 453 Old Woodbury Road, is a former dairy farm situated along Reservoir Road and Old Woodbury Road on the town’s border with Woodbury. It features newly built boardwalk trails, a wildlife observation deck, a pond, and varied wildlife habitat, adding to a growing greenbelt of protected open space in northern Southbury.
Land trust staff and board members will lead guided walks and talk about the property’s history during the event, which will also feature nature crafts and games for kids, a history display, and fall snacks/food.
The Southbury Land Trust credited the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, the Town of Southbury, local Scout troops, board member Anne Colby, Stewardship Director Pat Monahan, and neighbors Judith Silverstein and Gerald Wolfson for their work on the project.
Admission is free. The event will be held rain or shine; sturdy walking shoes are recommended. Parking and directional signage will be posted at the entrance.
