Nearly 40 members of the B’nai Israel congregation and the greater Southbury community gathered Sunday, Oct. 4 for a breakfast and discussion with First Selectman Tim O’Neil, who reflected on his first year in office and addressed several ongoing town initiatives.

Following breakfast prepared by the Brotherhood’s “Kitchen Krew,” O’Neil discussed some of the issues and initiatives that have helped shape his first year as First Selectman, including efforts to strengthen the town’s infrastructure and plan for the future.

The Brotherhood also presented O’Neil with its Dedicated Leader Award, recognizing his commitment to public service and the Southbury community.

“Leadership is never a one-person effort,” said O’Neil. “It takes residents, volunteers, community organizations, businesses, and civic and religious groups all working together, to enact positive change.”

Adam Brill, head of the B’nai Israel Brotherhood, said that it was important to give members of the congregation and the community an opportunity to hear directly from the First Selectman about what is happening in Southbury and where the town is headed.

“Tim was generous with his time, candid in answering questions, and clearly passionate about the community he serves,” said Brill.

O’Neil said he appreciated the thoughtful questions and genuine interest in the town.

“It was also a great opportunity to reflect on my first year as First Selectman, to share some of the accomplishments my administration has achieved, talk about the challenges we continue to face, and discuss the work that lies ahead,” O’Neil said.

The breakfast is part of the Brotherhood’s ongoing effort to offer greater community programs focused on fellowship, civic engagement and service.
