SOUTHBURY — Connecticut Water Company has issued a precautionary boil water advisory for customers west of Church Road following a water main break Friday morning.
Customers east of Church Road are not affected, according to the company. The advisory primarily affects the Heritage Village system, though Connecticut Water said it has contacted affected customers.
Although the water can be used without boiling for bathing, cleaning, sanitation, or other purposes where the water is not consumed, the company is encouraging customers to boil their tap water before using it for drinking, cooking, food preparation, reconstituting baby formula or where it will be consumed.
The advisory will remain in effect until water samples are tested by a state-certified laboratory and confirmed free of bacteria. The company expects results within 48 hours and said it will notify customers when the advisory is lifted.

The break is also affecting Rochambeau Middle School, Gainfield Elementary School and Pomperaug Elementary School.
Region 15 Public Schools said Friday, on the district’s website, that all three schools will operate on their normal schedules. Lunch will be served, though menus will change. Bottled water will be available, and students are encouraged to bring their own water bottles. Water fountains will be unavailable, though bathrooms will remain functional.
Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
