State Representative Jason Buchsbaum (R-69) has been unanimously endorsed by the Republican nominating convention to run for reelection as State Representative for Connecticut’s 69th House District.
Delegates from Bridgewater, New Milford, Roxbury and Southbury recently met at the Southbury Senior Center to vote on the endorsement. The nominating convention was chaired by Region 15 Board of Education Secretary Tom Marks, and Southbury Board of Finance member Steve Giacomi serving as convention secretary.
In his acceptance speech, Buchsbaum emphasized his priorities in Hartford, including advocating for lower taxes and electricity costs, rejecting unfunded mandates and excessive legislative overreach, protecting the right of towns to govern themselves, supporting public safety and emergency services, and continuing to fight for seniors, veterans and families.
“Now more than ever I believe that strong common sense voices matter, and are needed in Hartford. We need leaders who are going to fight for fiscal responsibility, accountability, and common sense, and we need advocates for our small towns,” said Buchsbaum upon accepting the endorsement. “Together, we can and we will build a stronger, more prosperous and more affordable Connecticut.”
Buchsbaum, who previously served on the Southbury Board of Selectmen, was elected to serve the 69th District in November 2024 and assumed office the following January. He serves on the state legislature’s Commerce Committee, Energy and Technology Committee, and the Public Safety and Security Committee.
With no Democrat nominated to oppose him, Buchsbaum is on track to run unopposed on the ballot in November, barring a write-in challenge.
Region 15 Board of Education Chair Marion Manzo nominated Buchsbaum, and former Roxbury First Selectman Barbara Henry seconded the nomination. Manzo emphasized Buchsbaum’s recent work regarding a space waiver for the upcoming school construction project.
“Jason played an integral part in securing the space waiver for Region 15 to build two new schools. By doing that, he saved local taxpayers millions of dollars,” said Manzo. “Jason has stood out as one of the most approachable, responsible, responsive and proactive state representatives I have ever worked with. Having a representative who seeks to understand issues is essential, and Jason has proven that civility and common sense can break through political partisanship.”
Barbara Henry emphasized Buchsbaum’s work as an advocate for our small towns and his common sense approach to governing, also noting his presence and accessibility in each of the 69th district towns.
“In a landscape of ever competing interests, it is imperative to elect leaders whom you can trust to represent all citizens throughout the district. It’s also imperative to keep someone with Jason’s common-sense approach to the issues in Hartford,” said Henry. “Jason speaks to the issues that matter in communities like ours: affordability, public safety, and making sure local decisions remain local. He has exhibited a balanced, thoughtful approach to policy decisions.”
Buchsbaum thanked the delegates for “once again giving me this opportunity to be your voice and advocate in Hartford.”
Election Day is Tuesday, November 3, with early voting available from October 19 through November 1.
