Region 15 elementary and middle schools will dismiss early Friday, June 12, because of the forecasted extreme heat, the district announced Thursday evening.
Middle schools will operate from 8:05 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
Elementary schools will operate from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Lunch will be served at both levels.
The preschool and Friends Together Program will hold an AM session from 9:00 a.m. to 10:40 a.m. and a PM session from 10:45 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. BAS (Before- and after-school care) remains open.
Pomperaug High School runs on a separate bus schedule and is mostly air-conditioned, allowing the district to keep PHS on a regular school day schedule for Friday.
The district says it will continue to monitor weather conditions and communicate additional updates as needed.
The early dismissals come as the state’s Extreme Hot Weather Protocol was activated Thursday morning, effective through Sunday, June 14. Temperatures are expected to exceed 90 degrees daily, with the heat index reaching or exceeding 100 degrees at times
