SOUTHBURY – Shawn Mobilio has stepped down from his role as head coach of the Pomperaug High School boys basketball team, bringing an end to his three-year tenure with the Panthers.
In a statement posted to social media and shared with members of his AAU basketball program, Mobilio thanked the school community and reflected on his time leading the program. In his first two seasons as head coach, he led the team to double-digit victories and appearances in the CIAC state tournament.
“It has been an honor to work with such dedicated student-athletes who competed each day with pride, commitment, and determination,” Mobilio wrote in the statement. “I am incredibly grateful for the relationships built with our players, coaching staff, administrators, families, and alumni during my time at Pomperaug.”
Region 15’s Director of Human Resources confirmed to The Record that Mobilio submitted a letter of resignation earlier this week.
Although Mobilio did not directly state what comes next professionally, he wrote that he plans to pursue a career path that “aligns more closely with my business goals” while also spending more time with his wife and son.
Mobilio’s final season at Pomperaug ended with a 1-19 record and included a four-game midseason absence that school officials initially described only as a “personnel issue.”
As previously reported by The Record, documents obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request later revealed that Mobilio had been placed on administrative leave following complaints from families regarding the climate and culture of the program.
Mobilio returned to the sidelines following the leave and finished out the remainder of the season.
