SOUTHBURY — An Oxford man has filed a lawsuit against a McDonald’s restaurant in Southbury, alleging that hot oil from a McCrispy sandwich caused permanent burns to his face.

According to the complaint filed in Connecticut Superior Court on December 9, 2025, plaintiff Sean Green of Oxford claims he ordered the signature chicken sandwich at the McDonald’s in the Southbury Plaza at 100 Main Street North.

On that day, Saturday, May 18, 2024, Green took the sandwich back to his table and, upon biting into it, was allegedly struck in the face by hot oil, resulting in burns and permanent facial scarring to the right side of his face, according to the complaint.

The court filing – officially a product liability claim – asserts that the sandwich was served in an unsafe condition and that the fast-food chain and its employees failed to take reasonable steps to prevent injury.

The filing further states that the injuries have caused ongoing pain and suffering, mental distress, and a diminished ability to carry out some daily activities. Green has also incurred expenses related to treatment and consultation with a plastic surgeon.

Green’s attorney, Bruce Jacobs of the New Haven-based Jacobs & Jacobs law firm, says that the permanent injuries were sustained just days before Green’s high school prom.

The lawsuit seeks standard damages of at least $15,000 for medical treatment, pain and suffering, and other losses.

The defendant, Southbury 5529 LLC, is required to respond to the complaint by January 27, 2026. A representative for the local franchise referred questions to the corporate offices of McDonald’s, which has not yet responded to correspondence from The Record.
