The State Bond Commission approved funding for infrastructure improvements to two state-owned properties in Southbury: the Southbury Training School and Kettletown State Park.
During its special meeting on Thursday, December 18, the commission authorized $500,000 for HVAC improvements at the Southbury Training School (STS), as part of a broader bonding package for state facilities overseen by the Department of Developmental Services.
Bond Commission documents indicate that the funding will support HVAC replacements in multiple cottages at STS, including Cottages 7, 7A, 4, 20, 40, 41, and 42. The allocation also includes bathroom renovations in Cottage 42 and at the Roselle School, which is located on the STS campus.
The commission also approved money for storm and flood damage recovery in Oxford and Southbury as part of a larger $20 million statewide allocation for renovations and improvements at certain state parks.
Part of the $20 million funding includes $2 million earmarked for work at Kettletown State Park and the Bridle Larkin Trail. Kettletown is also listed among parks eligible for restroom renovation projects.
State Representative Jason Buchsbaum and State Senator Eric Berthel praised the allocation of funds on social media later Thursday.
