Electing Kathryn (Kat) Smith for Southbury Board of Zoning Appeals Alternate is a no-brainer.
The Town website description of commissioner duties emphasizes understanding Connecticut General Statutes section 8-2g upon which matters, including special exceptions, are required to pass by the specific terms of the zoning bylaw, ordinance or regulation in harmony with the general purpose and intent.
Commissioners are to consider conditions affecting the parcel but not generally affecting the district in which it is situated.
A 10-year resident with her family, Kathryn brings years of professional experience with the U.S. Department of Justice analyzing complex issues and crafting well-informed, unbiased, and accurate solutions.
Kathryn also has experience in marketing and strategic planning and currently works part-time as a fitness instructor.
I have gotten to know Kat through her volunteer work in Southbury. Kat is a warm, welcoming and informative resource on strategic planning for the town.
