Newbury Musical Theatre Company will present its summer production of Legally Blonde Jr., featuring performers from its Junior Division, at Nonnewaug High School in Woodbury.
Performances are scheduled for Friday, July 17, at 7 p.m. and Saturday, July 18, at 2 p.m.
The show is an adaptation of the Broadway hit, which is designed specifically for middle and high school performers. It follows the transformation of Elle Woods as she tackles stereotypes, snobbery and scandal in pursuit of her dreams.
Newbury’s Junior Division is a training experience for participants to develop performance skills, foster artistic comradery and inspire personal confidence. Many students graduate from the Junior Division to the Main Stage productions.
As Morgan McCann, a cast member since third grade, says, “Through this program, I learned how to sing and I gained the confidence to put myself out there when I auditioned. The Junior program gives you the chance to be a kid and to work on being professional in a musical theater setting.”
