Sustainable Southbury and the Southbury Public Library are partnering to host Backyard Composting Made Simple, a hands-on educational program designed for gardeners at any experience level.
Two sessions are available: Thursday, March 19 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., and Saturday, March 28 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Both will be held at the library at 100 Poverty Road.
Leading both sessions is Bob Lavorgna, a composting educator with deep roots in the Connecticut gardening community. Lavorgna has taught composting through the OLLI program at UConn’s Waterbury branch, mentored students in the UConn Master Gardener Program, and presented at events, including the Simsbury Sustainability Fair. He also spent time as a Garden Associate at White Flower Farm in Litchfield, where he helped customers with plant selection and design.
The engaging program will explore the environmental benefits of composting, practical tips for getting started, and some of the best methods for successful backyard composting.
This program is ideal for home gardeners, environmentally conscious residents, and anyone interested in reducing household waste while creating nutrient-rich soil naturally.
This event is free to attend and open to anyone regardless of their town of residency. Registration is required. This program is sponsored by Sustainable Southbury and UCONN.
