Mattatuck Unitarian Universalist has announced its Sunday service theme for March 2026: “Paying Attention.”
Throughout the month, services will explore the power of paying attention in a variety of settings and stages of life, including the value of focusing on the present moment and how those moments connect to Unitarian Universalist values. Organizers say the theme will also emphasize mindfulness, self-reflection, conscience and compassion.
The series will encourage openness to listening and finding wisdom from neighbors and members of the broader community. Services will also address nature, the earth and issues related to the climate crisis. Guest ministers and speakers will reflect on the theme each Sunday.
On March 8, Rev. Sierra-Marie Gerfao of New Haven will serve as guest minister. She is the newly appointed part-time executive director of the Connecticut Unitarian Universalist Social Justice Ministry. Gerfao focuses on building communities of belonging and has spoken about the imagination required to build a new future during challenging times for democracy. The congregation will also celebrate new members during the March 8 service.
Sunday worship services are held at 11 a.m. at 283 Main St. North in Southbury. The congregation gathers in the sanctuary at UCC Southbury, followed by refreshments and conversation in the social hall. Children are welcome. A Religious Exploration program is offered for families throughout the year.
