Sustainable Southbury Launches First-Ever $1,000 Scholarship for Local Students

Sustainable Southbury has announced its first-ever scholarship, to be awarded for the 2026–2027 academic year in the amount of $1,000.

The scholarship is open to Southbury residents who are currently in high school, enrolled in college, or returning to a higher education institution. Eligible applicants must plan to pursue studies in one of the following areas: conservation, environmental studies, sustainability, recycling, agriculture, farming, forestry, clean energy technology, natural resource management, or urban planning.

Applicants should demonstrate a history of community service related to environmental issues and must submit a personal essay. The essay should describe the applicant’s chosen field of study and explain how it aligns with Sustainable Southbury’s mission to promote energy efficiency, waste reduction, recycling, increased clean energy use, and clean transportation — all aimed at improving the quality of our air, land, water, and natural resources.

Applicants are also asked to explain how their field of study could help Southbury become a more sustainable community.

High school students should apply through their school counseling office and include a transcript. All other applicants will be reviewed individually.

The application form is available at:
