The Pomperaug High School boys basketball team has been without its head coach for the past four games, a situation the school’s athletic director described as a personnel matter.
Shawn Mobilio, the third-year head coach for the Panthers, was last on the sidelines at the team’s January 28 away game at Stratford High School, an 86–34 loss.
Region 15 Athletic Director Ron Plasky described the absence as a personnel matter and declined to provide additional details.
The team’s past four games have been coached by Junior Varsity Head Coach Walter Kustra.
When contacted by The Record, Mobilio responded “no comment.”
Multiple requests for comment by phone and email have been sent to school and district officials this week. As of Friday morning, no responses had been received. School districts typically do not comment publicly on personnel matters.
Following Thursday night’s game — an 80–40 loss at New Milford High School — the Panthers hold a record of 1-13.
In his first two seasons with the team, Mobilio led the Panthers to consecutive state tournament appearances with double-digit wins each year.
The Panthers are scheduled to play next on Monday, February 9, against Masuk High School. There are six games left in the regular season, including next Monday’s home game.
No timeline for Mobilio’s return has been provided.
