Pomperaug fell to New Fairfield at home on Thursday night, 60-57.
A back-and-forth SWC matchup saw Pomperaug take a one-point lead going into halftime, but a fast-paced third quarter for both teams saw the Panthers fall just short of the win.
For the Rebels, Jake Huber’s 26 points led the way, 14 of which came in the third quarter.
Pomperaug was led by four players scoring in double-digits, including Jake Null (15 points) with his four three pointers on the night. Noah Pane (11 points), Zaire Watson (11 points) and Jonah Suhar (10 points) all contributed in the conference matchup.
Pomperaug actually out-paced the Rebels in the high-flying third quarter 26-22, but was only able to score four points in the final quarter of play.
Panthers head coach Shawn Mobilio said after the game that his team “found their heart”. Despite still searching for their first win of the season, he notes that the confidence is growing from what he’s seeing on the court.
Going forward, Pomperaug plays three times next week, including away at Newtown High School on Monday, away at Northwestern High School on Wednesday, and then at home against Brookfield on Thursday.
