A community discussion is scheduled for Thursday, January, 8, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. in the library at B’Nai Israel Southbury, located at 444 Main Street North.
Justice Southbury will join Rabbi Eric Polokoff in welcoming guests. All are invited, RSVP is required.
The event will feature local writer Joseph J. Stango leading the conversation titled, “Bridging the Divide: The Better Way to Bring About Change.”
Stango’s work on the Money Follows the Person program has been instrumental in helping thousands of older adults and people with disabilities transition from institutional care back into community-based living.
Through grassroots organizing, collaboration with legislators, and public outreach, he has advanced the cause of independence, dignity, and community-based support for vulnerable residents across the state. He is also a columnist for the Waterbury Republican-American, often writing columns based on social connection.
He says, “During my time at the legislature, I discovered that true social change is achieved not by diminishing others, but by respectfully sharing compelling stories and seeking common ground. By bridging divides through honest dialogue and meaningful storytelling, we can foster understanding and inspire collaborative action for social policy reform. It is this spirit of inclusion and empathy that empowers communities to move forward together.”
Justice Southbury is a local non-partisan group whose vision is “a more fair and kind community for all.”
Please confirm your attendance at justicesouthbury@gmail.com. Light refreshments will be served.
