Students of Pomperaug High School (PHS) will have the opportunity to turn school spirit into community action this month through the Feed the 203 Fall Food Drive, running from October 14-24 and benefiting the Southbury Food Bank.
The student-led nonprofit, founded by two PHS students this year, will collaborate with their school’s student government, coinciding with Spirit Week at PHS.
Students can bring nonperishable food and essential items to the cafeteria during lunch. Each donated item earns points for their grade, and standings will be updated throughout the week.
The grade that collects the most items will win a reward and claim bragging rights throughout the school.
The project is part of Feed the 203’s mission to combat local food insecurity.
In Connecticut, the number of food-insecure individuals grew 40 percent from 2020 to 2023, according to a 2025 Map the Meal Gap study by the nationwide nonprofit Feeding America.
