Sustainable Southbury Announces Green Homes Tours

Ever wondered how your neighbors are generating their own electricity or cutting energy bills with creative and green solutions?

The Green Homes Tour offers a chance to see firsthand how some local homeowners are doing just that, as Sustainable Southbury has announced a series of free events on Saturday, October 25, running from 1 to 5 p.m.

Tours will take place at four private residences, with groups starting on the hour between 1 and 4 p.m. Exact addresses will be shared with registrants 24 hours in advance.

Of the four featured homes, two were built to be “Net Zero,” meaning they produce all the power that they need. Each home shows a different approach to achieving “Net Zero” status. Both homes were built to enable the owners to live a greener lifestyle and feature sustainable features beyond energy conservation. One was built to be an age-in-place retirement home.

The other two homes feature energy-efficiency improvements the owners have made over time to become more energy-independent and to reduce the amount of energy the homes use.

Green features on display will include induction cooking, energy recovery ventilation, improved weatherization, different approaches to insulation, roof and ground-mounted solar panels, ground-source and air-source heat pumps, heat pump water heaters, EV charging, solar with battery storage, rainwater catchment systems, and local food production.

One ticket per vehicle covers all stops on the tour. To register visit the event listing or see below.
