First Selectman candidate Tim O’Neil and Board of Selectmen candidate Wendy Bernard will host a community meet-and-greet event on Saturday, October 4, from 10 a.m. to noon at VFW Post 1607, 150 Lee Farm Drive.

The event, called “Common Grounds”, intends to spark a conversation with residents beyond party lines, including unaffiliated, Republican and third-party voters.

The event is free to attend, although attendees are encouraged to donate to the host VFW Post 1607.

Both O’Neil and Bernard plan to speak and answer questions.

“I’m running as a Democrat, but I want to be sure I’m listening to everyone’s concerns and that I’m able to share my platform with the widest audience possible,” explained O’Neil, a lifelong fourth-generation Southbury resident.

“I want to be the First Selectman for everyone, including unaffiliated voters, third party voters and of course my Republican friends too,” he added. “At the end of the day, this election isn’t about what party we belong to but about how we can work together to tackle Southbury’s present and future challenges.”

Board of Selectmen candidate Wendy Bernard, a local attorney with the Bernard Law Group, says she is looking forward to speaking with residents at the local VFW. She retired from the Army Reserve in May 2020 as a Major and has earned military awards, including the Army Commendation Medal and the Bronze Star.

“My life has been one of service, from helping neighbors as a child, to serving in the U.S. Army Reserves, to my work on the Zoning Commission and as a practicing attorney for over 20 years,” said Bernard. “I am committed to helping Southbury remain a town where families flourish, voices are heard, and decisions are made with integrity, for every citizen, no matter their party affiliation.”

Coffee and a light breakfast will be provided. RSVP to southburydems@gmail.com with the number in your party.
