The Southbury Democratic Town Committee (SDTC) will host its Annual Family Picnic and Silent Auction on Sunday, September 21, from 12 to 3 p.m. at Ballantine Park Pavilion, 611 Old Field Road.

SDTC Chair Michael Carrington says the annual picnic (rain or shine) provides an opportunity for residents to meet and mingle with the local candidates.

“It’s also a chance to ask questions, share concerns, and learn how you can get involved in shaping Southbury’s future,” said Carrington, who is also a candidate for the Board of Finance.

This year’s event will feature a silent auction where all guests can bid on items, including gift cards, local artisan goods, and Southbury-themed baskets. LaBonne’s Markets will be catering a delicious picnic lunch featuring grilled chicken, hamburgers, veggie burgers, hot dogs, sides and sweet treats.

Democratic candidates running to represent Southbury in the November 4th Municipal Election include First Selectman candidate Tim O’Neil, along with Board of Selectmen candidates Wendy Bernard, Cathy De Carli and Kelly Keenan.

There are a total of 24 Democratic candidates on the ballot running for positions on the Board of Finance, Planning Commission, Zoning Commission, and more. Several candidates will be in attendance to meet guests, discuss their accomplishments, answer questions, and share their platforms.

Connecticut State Treasurer Erick Russell will be a special guest, with additional guests expected. The SDTC encourages the public to follow them on social media for the latest updates.

“Local elections determine where your tax dollars go, whether it’s to parks, road repairs, or the library,” said Selectman O’Neil. “By engaging in local races, you’re helping to set the priorities for our town.”

Tickets for lunch are $30 per adult and $10 per child (age 12 and under). To reserve your spot, visit www.southburydemocrats.com, complete the reservation form, and submit payment. Please be sure to indicate how many veggie burgers your party would like.
