The Southbury Record has been accepted for membership in LION Publishers, a national professional organization that supports local independent online news outlets.
Established in 2012, LION Publishers has grown into a network of more than 575 members across the United States and Canada.
By joining LION, The Southbury Record becomes part of this wider movement of publishers innovating in storytelling and community engagement, while also honoring the heritage of local journalism.
“Joining LION Publishers is an exciting step for the Southbury Record,” said Editor Evan Triantafilidis. “It connects us with other independent local news outlets and provides resources to help us continue delivering trusted, hyperlocal reporting to our community.”
Membership in LION is based on an application process that ensures newsrooms uphold standards of transparency, fairness, accuracy and accountability.
Many LION members are journalists who left legacy news organizations to launch or lead independent outlets that fill critical coverage gaps, including those that tend to be underserved by traditional media.
Readers of the Record should expect continued local coverage, including the launch of the Record’s local sports coverage starting this month.
“Being on the sidelines for this upcoming fall sports season is a blessing,” said Triantafilidis.
Prior to starting The Southbury Record, Triantafilidis worked for nearly a decade in the print journalism industry in the surrounding states of New York and Massachusetts, as well as Fairfield County, Connecticut.
