The State Bond Commission has approved a grant-in-aid to the Town of Southbury to assist with the restoration, repairs and renovation of the Southbury Public Library.
State Rep. Jason Buchsbaum relayed the announcement in a social media post, after the commission met on Friday, August 1.
The library was severely damaged by the floods of last August, and has since relocated to a temporary location at the Heritage Hotel at 522 Heritage Road.
“The library provides significant resources to the Southbury and surrounding communities with vibrant programming and services,” said Buchsbaum. “Therefore, this restoration is critical.”

The Town of Southbury is currently underway on an approximate $1.4 million restoration to the library, with this $350,000 grant going towards covering the balance of costs after federal (FEMA) reimbursement.
Town officials have set a goal to open the library at its original location on Poverty Road this November.
The Southbury Public Library is also enacting its summer hours for the month of August, with scheduled closures on weekends this month.
