BRIDGEPORT — Pomperaug played an efficient game Friday night, blanking Harding 51-0 to reach 5-0 on the season.

Pomperaug scored on all seven of their first-half drives – six on the ground and one passing score – to lead 51-0 at halftime.

Now halfway through the regular season, the Panthers have already matched their win total from last year.

“Our kids have worked hard, and they’re executing,” said Pomperaug head coach Tony Pereira. “We’re doing the things that need to be done to have five wins halfway through the season. It’s satisfying, but we’re not done.”

Jack Guinipero had both a rushing and a receiving touchdown, while Josh Coughlin threw for one and had two rushing scores of his own. Cole Tracy also had a 14-yard rushing score.

Junior Christian Geanuracos had a pair of explosive rushing scores of 58 and 57 yards each, leading the Panthers in yards on the ground in the game.

The Panthers were quick to capitalize on two forced turnovers — a recovered fumbled snap, and an interception from Gavin Lynch.

Harding’s Alex Evans had a nearly 100-yard game as a receiver as the Presidents fell to 1-4.

Pomperaug is now averaging 44 points per game on offense while giving up fewer than 10 points on defense per contest.

Masuk will bring its undefeated record next week for a premier matchup in the annual SWC battle of the Panthers.

“It’s going to be a great football game,” Pereira said. “They have great DNA. That’s where we want to be as well. “

Pomperaug will be hosting its next three games at home, starting Friday at 6:30 p.m.
