Letter: Knickerbocker Offers Experience and Pragmatism

Dear Editor,

Matt Knickerbocker deserves your vote to be our representative of the State Senate’s 32nd District. He combines experience, intellect, integrity and compassion to be a superb representative of all of us.

I have known and worked with Matt for fifteen years. He has brought his financial skills from his corporate experience to the Board of Education in Bethel before becoming the First Selectman of Bethel for ten years. He is a proven leader who was able to find ways out of difficult financial quagmires that prior administrations had allowed to happen. As a leader he is legendary for how well he gets along with elected representatives on both sides of the aisle.

Matt is a long-standing member of the Connecticut Commission on Municipalities Board of Directors. This front row seat to legislation gives him the insider knowledge to address unfunded mandates. His pragmatic style, as opposed to a politician who puts Party over the People, makes him the representative that we need.

He has shown this with his approach to education (especially special education), support of public health option for insurance and a modern energy supply to improve reliability and lower prices. It is still shocking to realize that Connecticut’s Republican representatives said nothing when President Trump arbitrarily and illegally shut down electric generation projects that were over 80% completed. Although the courts overruled this abuse of executive power, thousands of employees in Connecticut were without a paycheck until the project was allowed to continue.  Shame on all Connecticut Republicans who were afraid to stand up for the people instead of siding with the President.
