Justice Southbury will offer the thirty-first in its Speaker Series of interactive Zoom conversations on Sunday, July 5, at 7:00 p.m.
Musical artist Jenny Baker will participate in a moderated discussion on her relationship with music and activism, and how the two are woven together. Baker will discuss writing modern-day social commentary songs, her feelings about them being used at national rallies, and how she plans to continue using her music platform to support activism.
Baker is an artist and songwriter using her eclectic sound to empower listeners through the honesty and transparency of her lyrics. Her singer-songwriter soundscape merges the art of lyrical storytelling with an evocative sonic landscape, with her main goal being to always capture universal emotions through a unique perspective. Each of her releases is partnered with a different organization, connecting listeners to causes including the National Immigrant Justice Center and the International OCD Foundation.
Over the last few years, she has garnered over 10 million streams, hundreds of thousands of fans, and developed a loyal fanbase who lovingly calls themselves ‘The Bakery.’ To Jenny, building the world of The Bakery is just as important as the music itself. Between her Discord page, Zoom parties, and countless fan mail campaigns, she has fostered an unbreakable connection with her listeners.
She is currently rolling out her debut concept album, ‘Tales of a Jester’, in which every song is connected to a different classic fairytale (see @talesofajester on Instagram for more). This upcoming project utilizes a fantastical landscape to share the very real and messy tales of her 20s.
