Two of Southbury’s most visible nonprofits are teaming up once again for a community bottle and can collection fundraiser.
The Southbury Arts & Culture Alliance (SACA), in partnership with Sustainable Southbury, will hold the recyclables drive on Sunday, April 12, from noon to 2:00 p.m. at 800 Main Street South. Please note that, due to the Easter Holiday, the fundraiser will be held on the second Sunday of the month.
Proceeds from April’s fundraiser will directly support SACA’s mission to support arts and culture within Southbury and surrounding communities. Upcoming SACA events include Artists’ Pantry Free Shopping Day, Art in the Park, SPARK Exchanges, Southbury Chalk Walk, Make Music Day, and the Artist of the Year program.
“This event is a simple way to do good for the environment and for Southbury’s growing arts scene,” said Chuck Litty of Sustainable Southbury. “And with SACA now a nonprofit, your support goes even further.”
Please note that EyeRecycle requires aluminum cans to be bagged separately from plastic bottles. Plastic bottles must be pre-sorted by size: under 1 liter, 1 liter, and 2 liters. Glass bottles must be placed in cardboard boxes to prevent breakage. If using EyeRecycle bags and you have pre-sorted bottles and cans by size, you may use the express lane. Simply drop off your bag and get paid.
For the most up-to-date information on items not accepted (including commonly brought cans not covered by state redemption contracts), presorting requirements, and use of the express lane, visit http://www.sustainablesouthbury.org/eye-recycle-event or email info@sustainablesouthbury.org.
Empty inkjet printer cartridges (not laser) are also accepted at this event.
Don’t have an EyeRecycle bag? Volunteers will direct you to a separate area and transfer bottles and cans into an EyeRecycle bag with a fill line for counting. Bags cost 50 cents per bag and are available for purchase at the event, on the EyeRecycle website, or at events Sustainable Southbury participates in. Note there is a 5-bag limit for this event.
