Justice Southbury will offer its 29th Speaker Series of interactive Zoom conversations on Sunday, March 29, at 7:00 p.m.
Dr. Lindsey Cormack, author, professor and national speaker, will discuss her book “How to Raise a Citizen (And Why It’s Up to You to Do It.)”
Dr. Cormack will lead a timely discussion on how to be a civic role model during this pivotal moment for democracy.
As 2026 marks both the nation’s semiquincentennial and the beginning of another federal election cycle, Dr. Cormack will explore how learning about government and politics can serve as a patriotic expression of both celebration and resistance.
By presenting data on how our youngest generations are experiencing civics education in the U.S., she will explain how gaps in our current approaches leave young people under-prepared to participate. The discussion will seek to challenge that civic learning is a shared responsibility — one that could help lead to the shared goal of creating a more perfect union.
Lindsey Cormack, PhD, is an Associate Professor of Political Science at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ and Director of the DCinbox. Her latest book, “How to Raise a Citizen (And Why It’s Up to You to Do It),” explains how and why parents must help their children to learn about politics and government.
Beyond parenting and politics, Dr. Cormack specializes in American politics, specifically strategic political communication in the contexts of Congress, Veterans politics, women in politics, and electoral systems. Her research has been published in Political Behavior, Congress & the Presidency, American Politics Research, and The Legislative Scholar, (among many others) as well as in popular outlets including the New York Times, the Washington Post, NBC News, The Hill, and more.
Justice Southbury is a local non-partisan group whose vision is “a more fair and kind community for all.”
All are invited to attend. Those who wish to receive the Zoom link may email justicesouthbury@gmail.com.
