The Southbury Board of Selectmen voted unanimously to terminate a police officer following a five-hour executive session held during a special meeting that began at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, February 16.
Officer Gary Corigliano was terminated from his position with the Southbury Police Department, effective immediately, after the department completed two internal investigations and presented the findings to the board.
No public explanation for the termination was provided following the vote, and town officials declined to comment on the reason for the action.
In a press release sent by the Southbury Police Department, the department notes that the two internal investigations did not involve any criminal conduct.
“Upon learning of alleged policy violations involving a department employee, the employee was placed on administrative leave, and two internal affairs investigations were promptly conducted and completed,” states the press release.
“These investigations addressed administrative matters only and did not involve any criminal conduct. The Police Department presented the findings of these investigations to the Board of Selectmen. After reviewing the results, the Board voted to separate the employee’s employment with the Town.”
“As this is a personnel matter, the Police Department will not be providing further comment at this time.”
The public vote occurred shortly after 11:30 p.m. following the lengthy executive session meeting and deliberations held behind closed doors.
Corigliano was present for the special meeting labeled as a pre-disciplinary meeting, as well as the public portion of the meeting where the board voted unanimously in favor of his termination.
Corgliano began working as a member of the Southbury Police Department in October 2016.
