SOUTHBURY — Blake Leonard has submitted his resignation as Director of the town’s Department of Public Works, according to a letter dated January 5, 2026.

Leonard’s letter of resignation was addressed to First Selectman Tim O’Neil and states that his final day of work will be Monday, January 19.

Leonard confirmed his departure to The Record on Wednesday, saying, “Working here in town has been an amazing growth opportunity which I will always be grateful for. Southbury’s leadership and the community have been a pleasure to work with over the last three years, so if anything, I would like to sincerely share how appreciative and thankful I am for those relationships.”

In the letter, Leonard wrote that his decision was based on personal reasons, including “pursuing other opportunities considering my own long-term goals.”

The letter continues, “It has been an absolute honor and pleasure serving this community over the last few years, and I am extremely grateful for the opportunity and professional experience gained here.”

He expressed gratitude towards his colleagues in the Public Works Department, crediting the team for what they accomplished together.

Leonard was instrumental in helping with several major projects in Southbury in recent years, including the renovation of Ballantine Pool and the repairs and renovations of the Southbury Public Library following the historic flooding of August 2024.

Leonard began working for the Town of Southbury in October 2022 as a Project Administrator.

Town officials have not yet publicly announced next steps regarding interim leadership or the process for filling the position.
