A pair of Pomperaug Elementary School students have been named the town-wide winners in the 2025 Connecticut Fire Prevention Poster Recognition Program.

On Monday, January 5, fourth grader Natalie Rua and fifth grader Shaurya Kundu were presented with a $25 gift card to Barnes and Noble and a Southbury Fire Marshal’s challenge coin.

Both of the winning posters will now move on to the next round of judging at the county level.

The annual poster contest is open to students in the 4th and 5th grade and aims to educate them on fire prevention.

The Connecticut Fire Prevention Poster Recognition Program is a collaboration of the Connecticut Fire Marshals Association, Office of the State Fire Marshal, The Connecticut Fire Chiefs Association, The Connecticut State Board of Education, the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, and the Connecticut Fair Access to Insurance Requirements (FAIR) Plan.
