Southbury Celebration Returns September 6

The annual Southbury Celebration returns on Saturday, September 6. (Town of Southbury flyer).

UPDATE: Southbury Celebration has been canceled for 2025.

One of Southbury’s biggest family-friendly events of the year returns next month, offering an evening of food, music, kids activities and fireworks.

Southbury’s annual town celebration will be held on Saturday, September 6, at Lake Stibbs Field (1461 South Britain Road), with free admission. The event runs from 4:30 to 9:00 p.m.

Residents are suggested to bring lawn chairs and blankets for the afternoon festivities, including a fireworks show that will begin at approximately 8:15 p.m.

The community event draws approximately 5,000 people each year.

This year’s food vendors include Big Dipper Ice Cream, Bricin’s Festival Food, Kingston Coffee, Los Mariachis Grill & Roaster, Oronoque Farms, Paradise Island, Polar Sweets and Szabo’s Seafood.

Community organizations providing snacks and drinks include Scout Troop 1607, Rochambeau Rebels, the Home and School Association of the Southbury Training School, Southbury’s Women’s Club, the Southbury Republican Town Committee and the Southbury Democratic Town Committee.

Activities for kids will include face painting by the Southbury Leos, strolling magic by Neato the Magician, and a dedicated craft station.

Free parking will be available on the Southbury Training School Great Front Lawn via Nutmeg Avenue. Limited handicap parking is available at the Lake Stibbs lot. A designated drop-off/pick-up area will be located behind the Gatehouse cottage at the main entrance.

There will be no parking or pedestrian traffic along Route 172.

Alcohol and pets will not be permitted. Due to large crowds and loud noises from the fireworks show, it is recommended to exercise caution with service animals.

This yearly event is co-sponsored by the Town of Southbury and the Southbury Training School, with organizational help from the town’s Parks and Recreation Department and the Southbury Celebration Committee.

A rain date of Sunday, September 7 is in place in case of inclement weather.
