Members of the Southbury Volunteer Fire Department responded to Old Woodbury Road on Friday morning to tackle a blaze that was contained to a second-floor bedroom.
Crews arrived on scene shortly after 10:00 a.m. to find heavy smoke conditions and a small fire in the residential structure at 595 Old Woodbury Road.
One person from the home was transported by EMS for smoke inhalation.
Fire Captain Brian Jones says the homeowner initially used a fire blanket to try and contain the small fire.
“Upon my arrival, residents were out of the house,” said Jones, who also commended the homeowners for evacuating quickly and closing the door behind them.
“Keeping the house open is going to add more oxygen to the fire,” he added.
By 11:30 a.m., the scene was cleared, but the incident is still under investigation as of mid-day Friday.
